Pre-Knowledge Test:
- Can you name some common birds?
- Have you ever heard birds chirping?
- Where do birds live?
- Why are trees important for birds?
Introduction:
The teacher will show pictures of birds and ask students to identify them. A short discussion on birds, their nests, food habits and sounds will be conducted. Then the teacher will introduce the poem “Bird Talk”.
Concept building:
- The teacher will recite the poem with proper rhythm and pronunciation.
- Students will do group and individual recitation.
- Difficult words like feathers, beetles, wings, and funny will be explained.
- The teacher will explain the conversation between the robin and the jay.
- Students will understand how birds look at humans differently.
- The humour and imagination used in the poem will be discussed.
- The teacher will ask questions such as:
- What were the robin and the jay talking about?
- Why did the birds think people were funny?
- What things can birds do that people cannot?
Consolidation and Reinforcement:
- Students will recite the poem again with correct pronunciation and expression.
- Important lines of the poem will be repeated.
- Names of common birds will be revised.
- The teacher will discuss the importance of birds and trees in nature.
Practice:
- Recite the poem aloud.
- Write the names of five common birds.
- Write the meanings of five difficult words from the poem.
- Draw and colour your favourite bird.
- Write three sentences about birds.
