Researchers from the Departments of Botany and Biotechnology at Gauhati University have developed a new fungus-based biological technique to accelerate the production of agarwood, the key raw material for Assam’s perfume and attar industry.

With the onset of the monsoon, the Brahmaputra has once again demonstrated its destructive power in South Ahotguri under Dergaon subdivision of Golaghat district.

The river is reportedly eroding nearly 50 metres of riverbank per day, resulting in the loss of hundreds of bighas of agricultural land and residential areas in villages such as Bekeli, Subidha Chapori, Bhanganmari, and Milanpur.
