Mahendravarman (c. 450–485 AD)
During the rule of Kumaragupta (c. 415–455 AD), Bengal and Pundravardhana were under the Gupta Empire.
After Kumaragupta, the Gupta Empire became weak.
Around the end of Skandagupta’s rule, Mahendravarman:
Removed the remaining control of the Guptas
Captured Pundravardhana and added it to the Varman Kingdom
👉 He was the first ruler of Kamarupa to perform Ashwamedha Yajna (a royal sacrifice ritual)

Bhutivarman (c. 510–555 AD)
The expansion towards the west, started by Mahendravarman, was continued and increased by his grandson Bhutivarman.
Bhutivarman:
Captured lands in Pundravardhana (west of Trisrota) between 545–50 AD
Gave land to more than 200 Brahmin families in that region

মহেন্দ্রবর্মণ (প্রায় ৪৫০–৪৮৫ খ্রিস্টাব্দ)
কুমারগুপ্ত (প্রায় ৪১৫–৪৫৫ খ্রিস্টাব্দ)-এর সময়ে বঙ্গ ও পুন্ড্রবর্ধন গুপ্ত সাম্রাজ্যের অধীনে ছিল।
কুমারগুপ্তের পর গুপ্ত সাম্রাজ্য দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ে।
স্কন্দগুপ্তের শাসনের শেষের দিকে, মহেন্দ্রবর্মণ:
গুপ্তদের বাকি প্রভাব/নিয়ন্ত্রণ দূর করেন
পুন্ড্রবর্ধন দখল করে ভার্মণ রাজ্যে যুক্ত করেন
👉 তিনি ছিলেন কামরূপের প্রথম রাজা, যিনি অশ্বমেধ যজ্ঞ (রাজকীয় যজ্ঞ) করেন

মহেন্দ্রবর্মণের শুরু করা পশ্চিম দিকে বিস্তার, তাঁর নাতি ভূতিবর্মণ আরও বাড়ান।
ভূতিবর্মণ:
৫৪৫–৫০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের মধ্যে, ত্রিস্রোতা নদীর পশ্চিমে পুন্ড্রবর্ধনের অঞ্চল দখল করেন
সেই অঞ্চলে ২০০-র বেশি ব্রাহ্মণ পরিবারকে জমি দান করেন
